O son of Kunti, the sense organs are more powerful than we can imagine and even the enlightened souls succumb to them at times. The mind is easily deluded when they raise a storm.
Your mind can easily fall into chaos if there is no strong anchor to hold it. So gather the sense organs under your control and enter the dimension of peace. Then merge your consciousness with mine. The one who has his sense organs under control, is established firmly in the domain of wisdom.
I will tell you how the mind meanders from one object of sense gratification to another and is finally led to disaster. The contemplation of sensuous pleasure (in the times when the task in hand requires your full concentration), leads you astray in search of pleasure and does not rest until it finds gratification. But it does not stop there. Gratified once, it craves for more, and thus starts the bondage. This bondage leads to desire, and (if the desire is not gratified), it leads to anger.
The anger clouds your thinking. When your judgement is thus eclipsed, you lose awareness of reality. With the loss of memory of who you are the power of discrimination gets destroyed. That is the total loss of the mind , and that causes the ultimate disaster.
Am I telling you to refrain from gratification of senses altogether? No. Enjoy life and love without allowing the senses to overpower you to the extent that you are enslaved by them. Experience pleasure and love, but even in the midst of the experience maintain detachment. Stay free of anger, malice and hatred when you taste the pleasures brought by the senses. The one who tastes the goodness, the beauty of life, keeping mastery over the senses, finds the true happiness in life. That is what is called grace, the gift that god gives you of His own free will.
In that dimension of peace there is no place for sorrow. In that state of grace and peace, the mind finds its anchor and stays protected all around.
On the other hand, the one who has lost control over the senses, loses control over the mind too. The one whose mind is not under control, is not capable of (positive)feelings. Where is the peace then? In this chaos, where is happiness?
